SPECIALIZING IN SUPERIOR MEDICAL LEGAL EVALUATIONS INVOLVING:

Spotlight on Stephen Wilson, M.D.

August 5, 2010

When we asked Dr. Wilson to tell us a little bit more about himself for our Spotlight Series of articles, he said, “I’m not comfortable in the spotlight.” His modesty is admirable and so are his accomplishments!

An epidemic of polio took place in British Guiana (now known as Guyana) in the 1960’s. In a single winter between 1962 and 1963, a total of 485 paralytic cases occurred over a 10-week period. 90% of the cases were in children under 5 years of age.

The Peace Corps of the 1960’s was in its infancy. At this time, Dr. Wilson volunteered to run a public immunization program immunizing 80,000 Guyanese children against polio. This selfless work in the Peace Corps was recognized by the Guyana Lion’s Club who bestowed on him, “The Humanitarian of the Year Award.” That was the first time the award had ever been given to a foreigner.

Besides, his private practice of 37 years, Dr. Wilson has been with us here at NAS as an associate doctor for 15 years.

His non-professional life is filled with family and travel - most recently he has been to the Galapagos Islands, China and Cuba. Grandchildren are on both east and west coasts and when time permits, Dr. Wilson likes to read non-fiction works that are related to intelligence agencies in US and abroad.
